PM Modi compares Kerala to Somalia, gets trolled on Twitter
'#PoMoneModi,' which rips off "Po Mone Dinesha", a famous line from a Malayalam film, which translates as "Son, you're dismissed, better head home" trended on Twitter all day.
On Sunday, during his speech, PM Modi said that for basic and essential health and development factors, Kerala is worse than Somalia.
The remark led to public umbrage and state Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also made a written complain.
"You made statements that had nothing to do with reality and likened Kerala to Somalia. This is unbecoming of a Prime Minister and has created a great deal of agony," the Chief Minister said. "Is it not a shame for the Prime Minister to pronounce that a state like Somalia exists in the country?" asked Chandyin his letter which is now available with the media.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Modi's speech was an 'insult' to the people of the southern state.
"PM's statement is an insult to the people of Kerala," Kejriwal tweeted.
Kerala goes to polling on Monday.
