PM Modi attends his first Parliament session
New Delhi, June 4 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday attended his first Parliament session.
"The people have given their blessings and votes to form this 16th Lok Sabha. I assure them that all efforts will be made in this temple of democracy to fulfill their hopes and aspirations," Modi told media before entering the Parliament House.
Meanwhile, the first sitting of the 16th Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday after paying homage to Union Minister Gopinath Pandurangrao Munde, who lost his life on Tuesday due to multiple internal injuries after his car was hit by another vehicle in the national capital.
Former parliamentary affairs minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath presided over the proceedings of the Lower House of the Parliament as the pro-tem Speaker.
President Pranab Mukherjee administered Nath's oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan before the Lok Sabha assembled on Wednesday.
The election of a new Speaker will be held on June 6.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Indore, Sumitra Mahajan, is likely to be the next Speaker of the Lok Sabha, said reports on Wednesday.
