Pegasus used to tap telephones of Abhishek, PK: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: Alleging that the telephones of her nephew and party leader Abhishek Banerjee and election strategist Prashant Kishor have been tapped, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said people would fight it out if Pegasus spyware is used to silence political opponents by instilling fear.

Addressing a party conference after her re-election as Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Banerjee attacked the BJP government at the centre saying it was using the Pegasus against anybody who dared to speak out against them.

“If you say anything, they will use Pegasus against you. Now it has been proved that the telephones of Avishek, PK (political and election strategist Prashant Kishor) and also of others have been tapped,” the West Bengal Chief Minister said, addressing her party activists at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Seeking justice on the issue, she said, “If justice is not done, then everybody will be silenced by instilling fear.”

"However, Banerjee warned that the people would protest if their rights are snatched. If Pegasus is used against people, they will fight it out. They can't snatch people's rights. Can't people enjoy their rights?” she said.
