Pawan Singh takes U-turn, says he will contest Lok Sabha polls

| @indiablooms | Mar 13, 2024, at 08:49 pm

Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh on Wednesday took a U-turn and said he will contest the Lok Sabha polls, days after he backed out as BJP's candidate from the Asansol seat.

"I have decided to contest polls to fulfil the promise made to my mother and the people of the country.I am seeking your cooperation and blessings," he posted on X.

On March 3, the actor had said he would not contest the polls due to 'personal reasons'.

He had written on X: "I am thankful to the BJP's top leadership from my heart for selecting me as their candidate from Asansol but due to some reasons I will not be able to fight the polls from the seat."

Asansol to witness clash between two actors

Asansol is an industrial town.

It is the second largest and one of the most populated cities in the Trinamool Congress-ruled state.

The seat will now see a clash between two actors as the ruling Trinamool Congress, which has decided to fight alone in the West Bengal, fielded Bollywood veteran Shatrughan Sinha from it.

Sinha is also the sitting MP from Asansol.

The BJP had won the seat twice in 2014 and then in 2019 when former Union Minister Babul Supriyo was fielded as its candidate.

However, the Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Babul Supriyo resigned after switching from the BJP to the TMC.

Sinha won the by-polls in 2022.
