Parliament set for heated debate on Operation Sindoor from today
New Delhi/IBNS: A debate on Operation Sindoor, which was India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, will be held in Parliament starting on Monday.
The debate, which will be held for 32 hours, will be opened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha at 12 noon on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to intervene, NDTV reported.
The debate in the Lok Sabha will be held for 16 hours.
A similar debate will be held in the Rajya Sabha for 16 hours on Tuesday.
Addressing a rally in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, the Prime Minister referred to Operation Sindoor said, "Today's India considers its security paramount.
"During Operation Sindoor, the world has seen how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty. This operation has made it clear that there is no safe haven in the world for India's enemies and terrorists anymore."
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor hitting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The military conflict escalated after Pakistan targeted civilians across the borders without any provocation to be aptly countered by the Indian military.
Nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were targeted and destroyed in 25 minutes of Operation Sindoor.
The terrorists camps were the major training hubs of Pak-based terror groups- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen.
According to a statement by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the operation was aimed at neutralizing terror camps actively involved in planning and executing attacks against India.
The ceasefire was called by India only after Pakistan reached out to New Delhi for it.
The opposition is likely to grill the government over the ceasefire, which US President Donald Trump has claimed to have brokered. However, India has categorically rejected Trump's claim which he repeated end number of times.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has also mocked Modi accusing him of surrendering before Trump's order.
"Now I understand BJP-RSS very well. They get scared and run away under pressure like they did in front of Trump. Trump said, 'Modi-ji... what are you doing? Narender, surrender'. Narendra Modi-ji said 'ji huzoor' and acted as per Trump's command," Rahul had said in a public rally.
Rahul also drew a comparison between Modi and late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who had defied the US' appeal and liberated East Pakistan and formed Bangladesh in 1971.
