Pansare death: Maharashtra observes bandh
Mumbai, Feb 22 (IBNS): The state of Maharashtra is observing a bandh on Sunday following the call of Left parties to protest against the murder of veteran communist leader Govind P Pansare.
According to report, the Opposition Congress and the NCP have also declared their support for the Left-sponsored protest.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur police have reportedly announced a cash reward of Rs five lakh for anyone providing information about Pansare's assailants.
Pansare, who was shot at by two unidentified assailants in Kolhapur on Feb 16, died in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Friday night.
He was shifted to the Mumbai hospital in an air ambulance but he succumbed to injuries at around 10 pm in the night, said the hospital.
Pansare, who had led an anti-road toll protest, was shot at along with his wife when the couple went out for a morning walk in and around their home in Kolhapur. His wife, however, survived the attack and has been recovering.
The miscreants accosted the ageing couple and fired at least four rounds from close range before escaping the scene, sources said.
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had condemned the attack.
The CM said that 10 teams would be formed and state director general of police would supervise the investigation.
