Panchayat head shot dead by miscreants in Bihar

Nalanda, Bihar, June 11 (IBNS) : A newly-elected village panchayat head of Harnaut village in Bihar's Nalanda district was shot dead by unidentified assailants, reports said.

Poonam Devi, the newly-elected panchayat, , was on her way to the Harnaut market on a bike, when three motorcycle-borne men shot five rounds at her from close range,

Poonam. Devi, who  was riding pillion on the bike, died on the spot. However, .the person who on the bike with her,  escaped unhurt.

 
The assailants fled from the spot immediately after shooting Poonam Devi down.
 
Raising protest against the murder, local residents surrounded Poonam's body and blocked roads, reports said.
