Wagah, Jul 18 (IBNS) Amid mounting tension at the border with conflicting allegations from both sides, Pakistani rangers on Saturday reportedly refused to accept sweets from their Indian counterparts on the occasion of Eid at the Wagah-Attari border in Punjab.

Officials of the Border Security Force said that a message to their Pakistani counterparts for the annual exchange of Eid greetings did not evoke response.

"It is true that sweets have not been exchanged this Eid... Till date, the tradition of exchange of sweets has always been followed..." media reports quoted BSF Deputy Inspector General as saying.

"This time the matter was discussed but we did not get any positive response from that side. We also did not pursue the matter," he said.ir

The Pakistani troops violated ceasefire nine times in one month, the last occasion being on Friday, by  targeting several Indian positions in Naushera sector of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A woman was killed and six others, including two BSF jawans, were injured on July 15 in firing and mortar shelling in Jammu district by Pakistan Rangers.

On the other hand, Pakistan claimed that their troops had shot down an "Indian spy drone" in their region.

Pakistan also claimed that four of the country's civilians were killed in Indian shelling across the border.

On Friday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj discussed the border situation at a high level meeting.
