P Chidambaram, son Karti charged in Aircel-Maxis case

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IBNS): Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti have been named in a chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Rs 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis case, media reports said.

In the chargesheet, nine others have also been named including Chidambaram's accountant Bhaskar Raman as accused.

Chidambaram, the senior Congress leader, has been named as accused number one in the chargesheet.

The case will be considered by the Delhi court on Nov 26.

However, both Chidambaram and Karti have denied any wrong doing in the case. They have alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led union government is playing vendetta politics against them.

Earlier in July, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a chargesheet against the father-son duo.

The CBI had said two illegal payments were given to Karti's firms, Chess Management and Advantage Strategic, during the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The CBI has alleged that Maxis had paid Rs. 3,200 cr to take over Aircel while then Union FM Chidambaram had powers to clear only Rs. 600 cr.

However, in the file, it was shown that only Rs. 180 cr was cleared.
