Over 3 lakh people affects in Assam flood
Guwahati, Aug 20 (IBNS): The flood situation in Assam on Thursday turned grim, following incessant rains in past few days across the state, where more than three lakh people have been affected in 13 districts.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its report that, flood waters submerged 611 villages in 13 districts of the state.
The flood situation worsened in Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Sivasagar, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Jorhat and Goalpara districts after water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries flowing above danger level in few places.
Alone in Bongaigaon district, over 1,40,000 people affected in the fresh flood followed by more than 48,000 in Kokrajhar and 41,000 in Dhemaji district.
Flood waters submerged over 27,000 hectors crop area in the affected areas.
District administrations had set up 124 relief camps in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh districts, where 84,779 people took shelter.
ASDMA said in its report that, water level of Brahmaputra river flowing above danger level at Nematighat in Jorhat district and in Dibrugarh.
“Water level of Jia Bharali river crossed danger level mark at N.T.Rd. Xing (Sonitpur), Puthimari river at N.T.Rd.Xing (Kamrup) and Beki river at Rd. Bridge (barpeta),” ASDMA said in report.
