Oting firing: Army allows Nagaland SIT to record statements of jawans
Guwahati: The army has agreed to give access to Nagaland’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine and record statements of the officers and jawans of 21 Para Special Forces who are involved in the firing incident which occurred at Oting village in Mon district.
14 civilians were killed in firing incidents at Oting and Mon on Dec 4 and 5.
A senior army official based in Nagaland said the Indian army has agreed that the SIT formed by the Nagaland government to probe into the incident, shall examine and record statements of 21 Para officials and jawans who were involved in the incident.
“Tomorrow or day after the personnel of 21 Para Special Forces will be deposing in front of the SIT at Jorhat. The SIT will examine and record statements of the officials and jawans at Rainforest Research Institute in Jorhat,” the official said.
The Nagaland SIT now has 22 officers from the earlier eight to expedite the probe.
The new team includes five Indian Police Service officers and it has been divided into seven teams.
On the other hand, a separate army inquiry team which is part of court of inquiry on Wednesday visited Nagaland.
