Opposition strong on disturbance: Aurn Jaitley on Parliament disruption
New Delhi, July 22 (IBNS): On a day when both houses of the Parliament were disrupted by the Oppositions' demand for resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday said that the Congress party is merely making unnecessary disturbance and is not ready for a debate on any issue.
"Opposition is weak on arguments but strong on disturbance. We want the entire nation to hear Sushma Swaraj's views but Opposition does not want the house to run," Jaitley said as the second day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament was wasted due to ruckus in both the Houses.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh also said the the opposition's conduct in Parliament was "unfortunate" after Swaraj expressed her willingness to make a statement on the Lalit Modi issue.
"Sushma ji requested that she wanted to make a statement in parliament on the baseless allegations against her. But, the opposition did not want to listen. This is very unfortunate," Singh told reporters outside the Parliament.
Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said all opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), were demanding action against the BJP minister and two chief ministers allegedly involved in impropriety and corruption cases.
"We demand action against those involved in corruption cases. The entire opposition is demanding action against them. On the issue of transparency, the government must practice what they preach," Scindia told reporters outside the Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day amid strong protests by Opposition over controversies involving BJP leaders as the Monsoon Session of Parliament failed to move with business for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
Uproar and acrimony continued to rule the roost in Parliament as earlier in the day both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced two back-to-back adjournments with an unrelenting Congress-led opposition demanding immediate action in the Lalit Modi row and Vyapam scam.
The Lower house was adjourned for the second time barely ten minutes after it met at noon and Speaker Sumitra Mahajan warned the MPs against showing black flags in the floor of the House and the Congress members continued to shout slogans.
Earlier, the Speaker had adjourned the Lok Sabha disapproving the Congress MPs wearing black bands.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the second time in the day until noon and then again till 2 pm.
The government reiterated in the Upper House that it is ready for a discussion on Sushma Swaraj controversy.
Wednesday is the second day of the Monsoon session . The Congress is adamant on the demand of the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her alleged help to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, accused in money laundering and foreign exchange rule violation.
The opposition has also put its foot down demanding removal of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for her proximity with Lalit Modi and that of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the Vyapam scam.
