Omar slams Shiv Sena MPs for forcing fasting Muslim man to eat

| | Jul 23, 2014, at 11:34 pm
Srinagar, July 23 (IBNS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday lashed out at Shiv Sena MP for forcing a Muslim catering service employee to eat during his Roza hours at the Maharashtra Bhavan recently while complaining about food.

A lawmaker from the Shiv Sena, Rajan Vichare, was caught on camera forcing a chapati in the mouth of a catering supervisor inside the Maharashtra Bhavan who happened to be a Muslim on a Ramzan fast while about 11 MPs of the party were accused of high handedness in dealing with the catering staff after they were angry over "poor quality of food.

An angry Omar Abdullah tweeted: " I'd like to see how the BJP/SS would have reacted if a Muslim MP had forced a non-Muslim vegetarian to eat meat. Shame on them."

Meanwhile expressing outrage at the behaviour of the Sena MPs, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday strongly protested against not being given a chance in Lok Sabha  to debate this serious issue and violation of human dignity.

Party president Mehbooba Mufti raised the issue in Parliament and presented a copy of a newspaper to the speaker which carried the report of Shiv Sena MPs from Maharashtra forcing an employee to eat against his wishes.

Mehbooba, said while it was disturbing that the religious freedom of an individual had been breached by none other than the representatives of the people, who are supposed to be the guardians of everybody's rights, the issues involved in this episode are of wider concern.
