Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti 'glad' with EC order on armed forces to be 'kept out' of poll process

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI/IBNS) Reacting to the Election Commission's directive to political parties to keep armed forces out of political campaign, former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti said they were 'glad,' as the order will end the BJP's tax payer-funded campaign.

However, Abdullah, Vice-President of the National Conference (NC), urged the EC to announce dates of election for a good fight.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Abdullah, who celebrates his 49th birthday today, posted 'The wait ends as done the BJP's tax payer funded campaign spree. Bring on the dates & let's fight the good fight.'

'Glad that ECI has finally stated the obvious. But its inordinate delay in this matter & aversion to implementing the Model Code of Conduct raises doubts if its being subverted like other institutions in the country,' Mufti tweeted.

The EC in a directive on Saturday asked political parties to keep armed forces out of political campaigns, after allegation that some parties were using photographs of CRPF martyrs during their public meetings.
