Bhubaneswar: Around six armed bike-borne criminals looted a businessman of cash, gold and silver jewellery in broad daylight near Matgajpur level crossing in Cuttack district on Wednesday.

Sources said five to six criminals intercepted the businessman near Matgajpur level crossing around 11 AM and looted cash gold and silver jewellery from him after resorting to blank firing.

As per the reports, the criminals first asked the businessman to handover the valuables but when he refused and tried to resist, the criminals resorted to blank firing and fled with the valuables.

On getting information, police rushed to the spot and recovered two empty shells from the spot.

Police said the exact amount of jewellery and cash looted will only be known after the businessman filed an FIR.

But a source said the criminals have looted Rs 25,000 in cash, 31 grams of gold and some silver jewellery from the businessman.

Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said the Police are on the job to nab the criminals.
