Obama buys Salman Rushdie's latest book, author takes dig again
New Delhi, Nov 29 (IBNS): Following P Chidambaram's admission that banning 'The Satanic Verses' during the tenure of ex-PM Rajiv Gandhi-led government was 'wrong', author Salman Rushdie on Sunday took a dig at the former Union Finance Minister.
The author tweeted: "This admission just took 27 years. How many more before the "mistake" is corrected?"
He also upped his attack with US President Barack Obama buying his latest book 'Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights'.
"So... It would appear the president bought my book today," he posted.
"Would it be wrong to think that there might be a reason for buying my book that is not related to Khomeini?," he said.
This comes after Chidambaram, while speaking at the Times LitFest in Delhi, said: "I have no hesitation in saying that the ban on Salman Rushdie's book was wrong."
Following a fatwa (decree) issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, then Supreme Leader of Iran, the book named 'The Satanic Verses' was banned.
