No heat wave in Delhi for next 5 days, predicts IMD

New Delhi/UNI: Delhites on Tuesday woke up to a pleasant morning as the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 18.8 degree, eight notches below normal.

The much needed relief came after the city on Monday, witnessed its first pre-monsoon rain, accompanied with lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 70 to 80 Kms per hour.

The Safdarjung observatory on Monday recorded the minimum temperature at 17.2 degrees, nine notches below normal.

This is the lowest recorded temperature in May for the national capital since the year 2000.

The lowest minimum temperature ever for the month is 15.2 degrees Celsius and it was recorded on May 2, 1982.

Meanwhile, intense heatwave conditions are unlikely to hit the national capital at least for another six days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.

"The maximum temperature on Tuesday is likely to hover around 35 degrees with Partly cloudy sky Light Rain or Drizzle" IMD predicted, while the relative humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 77 percent.
