No genuine Indian Muslim will be harassed, they will be fully protected: Sarbananda Sonowal

Guwahati/UNI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday assured the Muslim community of Assam that no genuine Indian Muslim will be harassed and they will be fully protected.

“Rumours spreading throughout the nation and also in Assam that Muslims will be harassed. No…no genuine Indian Muslim will be harassed. They will be fully protected. They are the citizen of the country,” Sonowal said.

The Assam Chief Minister said that, Assam will always remain with the Assamese and for this whatever legislation is required will bring it.

“The proceeding has already started and we have brought the policy in place to ensure that Assamese language, culture, heritage, land, their political right to be protected, well guarded by implementing clause 6 of the Assam Accord that is the constitutional safeguard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have already assured to the people of Assam that, all the adequate measures will be taken to get the clause 6 of the Assam Accord to be implemented with letter and spirit,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal further said that those people were involved in the recent violent incidents will be brought to book and no one will be spared.

“We have constituted SIT and the same has started an investigation. We want peace, tranquillity in the state. We want speedy growth. We are moving in a faster mode in all our development schemes with the blessings from the Prime Minister. Assam is going to be one of the most successful states in the country,” the Assam Chief Minister said.

Sonowal said that a minimum number of Hindu Bengali people of Assam will be benefited from the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

“The people will realise after the publication of the list of the people who will get the benefit. It will not affect our population pattern,” Sonowal said.

He also said that the Assam government has already started a dialogue with the organizations.

“We have extended our invitation to All Assam Students’ Union, different organizations like Chutia, Moran, Motok, Ahom, Kuch-Rajbongshi, tribal groups,” the Assam Chief Minister said.
