New Delhi/IBNS: Former Janata Dal (United) leader Pavan Varma, who was also a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) here on Tuesday.

Varma joined in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is currently in Delhi.

The AITC has put up a tweet which reads, "We are elated to welcome Shri @PavanK_Varma into our Trinamool Congress family. His rich political experience will help us serve the people of India and take this nation forward to even better days!"

This comes at a time the TMC is in an expansion mode after winning the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections, decimating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the last few months, several Congress leaders like Sushmita Dev, Luizinho Faleiro have crossed over to the TMC.
