Nitish Kumar renews demand for special status for Bihar

Patna, Mar 20 (IBNS): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has renewed his demand to the Centre to give special status to his state.

Speaking to media on Monday, Kumar said he has not given up the demand since he first raised the issue in 2005.

"I had written to the then Prime Minister for a special status to Bihar in 2005. I made the move shortly after assuming power in the state," Kumar said.

"We also got a resolution passed in the state assembly to the effect," he said.

"Since then, the demand has been raised by us continuously and I have not strayed for it even for a second," he said.

Kumar said he has never compromised with issues like 'corruption'.

He added: "I will never compromise with those trying to divide the society."

Kumar's JD(U) and the BJP partnered to form the government in Bihar last year.

Kumar formed the partnership with the BJP after ending its alliance with Lalu Yadav's RJD and the Congress.

Last week, relationship between the Centre and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu received a blow over the demands of a special status to be granted to Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP quit the alliance after the centre refused to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh.
