Nitish Kumar favours quotas in private sectors for backward classes
Patna, Nov 6 (IBNS): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday spoke in favour of the reservations for the backward classes in private sectors too, media reports said.
Nitish made the comment while speaking at the weekly programme of 'Lok Sambad'.
The Janata Dal (United) chief said the extension of the reservations to the private sector should be debated at the national level.
"It is our personal opinion that existing provisions of reservation should be extended in private sector also. But there should be a debate on the issue at national level. Final decision on the issue will be taken by Parliament," Nitish was quoted by The Times Of India.
"If you're using government money and giving employment, then you have to follow the Reservation Act of the state," the chief minister added.
Speaking about the reservations in outsourcing, Nitish said: "Although I am opposed to outsourcing, and the department should hire directly, we have made rules that if we are employing someone through outsourcing, then reservation policies should be followed."
Nitish's cabinet in the last week stated if any government department gives out work to any private company, a 50% reservation must be maintained.
