Nirmala Sitharaman visits Indo-Myanmar border

Guwahati, May 30 (IBNS): Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday visited the Indo-Myanmar border.

Sitharaman, who arrived at Dimapur in Nagaland on Tuesday, continued her visit to Spear Corps Zone on Wednesday.

Departing Dimapur in the morning, the Defence Minister undertook visit of forward posts of the Assam Rifles along the Indo-Myanmar border.

For this visit, Sitharaman was accompanied by Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.

At the forward posts, the Defence Minister witnessed the prevalent conditions and ongoing operations of units deployed for border guarding purpose in the area.

She was briefed by commanders operating on the ground.

Having made a comprehensive assessment of the situation, over a cup of tea with the troops, Nirmala Sitharaman expressed immense satisfaction on the high standards of professionalism and dedication displayed by units and formations of Spear Corps responsible for operations along the Indo-Myanmar border.

During the visit to forward areas, the Defence Minister also interacted with local State government functionaries and representatives of other security agencies.

She also met with local community leaders of the area and appreciated their cooperation in maintaining the security of the area.

Notwithstanding weather disruptions, the Defence Minister, having accomplished objectives of the visit, departed for Delhi later in the day.
