Nihalchand rape case: Victim wants to meet Modi

| | Jun 18, 2014, at 06:53 pm
New Delhi/Jaipur, June 18 (IBNS) The woman, who was allegedly raped by Union Minister Nihalchand Meghwal in 2011, on Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet her.

Addressing a press conference, the woman said: "I will try to meet the PM and request him to sack Nihalchand Meghwal from his Cabinet."

"They offered me money and a job to keep my mouth shut. But I want an opportunity to meet Narendra Modi and tell him my side of the story to get justice," she said.

Meanwhile, the All India Mahila Congress on Wednesday will stage a demonstration against the minister at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi.

"Nihalchand must resign on moral grounds. Modi promised security for women during polls, now where is his zero tolerance stand?" asked Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza.

A Jaipur district court on June 12 summoned Rajasthan's lone minister in the Narendra Modi government, Nihalchand Meghwal, in the 2011 rape case.

The court slapped notices on the Ganganagar MP and 17 others in the case.

The victim, in her First Information Report (FIR) lodged in 2011, claimed that her husband drugged her and handed her over to his friends, including Minister of State (MoS) Chemicals and Fertilizers, Nihalchand Meghwal, who allegedly raped her.

However, in 2012, the Jaipur Police closed the case accusing the woman of fabricating the incident.

The woman then approached a district court which summoned Meghwal and 17 others to respond by Aug 20.
