NIA files charge sheet in Coimbatore ISIS case

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday filed charge sheet against six accused in Coimbatore ISIS case in NIA special court at Chennai.

The six accused Mohamed Ashiq,Ismail S, Samsudeen, Mohammed Salauddin,Jafar Shadik Ali and Shahul Hameed were booked under sections of 120B, 143, 153A, 295A and 34 of the IPC besides sections 18, 18-B, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case was originally registered with Coimbatore police on September 1, 2018 under section 143 and 120B of IPC besides sections 15, 16, 18, 20 and 38 of UA (P) Act, where these six accused persons hatched a criminal conspiracy with intention of furthering the objectives of the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) by targeting Hindu leaders and activists at Coimbatore.

NIA took over the case on October1, 2018 from Tamil Nadu police.

The central terror probe agency revealed that the arrested accused persons had got radicalised on the violent extremist ideology of the proscribed terrorist organisation ISIS and they had been propagating the same ideology over the social media.

With the intention of furthering the objectives of the terrorist organisation ISIS in India, the accused persons had organised themselves into a terrorist gang since June, 2018 and conspired to further the activities of ISIS by carrying out terrorist attacks targeting Hindu leaders.
