NIA attaches 8 properties of two LeT operatives in Kashmir's Pulwama

Srinagar,/IBNS/UNI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday attached eight properties of two alleged key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir in a case related to the 2018 attack that led to the escape of top Pakistani militants from a Srinagar hospital.

The NIA said a total of eight properties, five belonging to Mohammad Shafi Wani and three belonging to Mohammad Tikka Khan were attached under Section 33 (1) of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), 1967, in pursuance of the recent orders of the NIA Special Court in Jammu.

On February 6, 2018, Naveed Jatt, a Pakistani militant commander, escaped from police custody after an attack on an escorting police party at Srinagar’s Sri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital. Two policemen were killed in the hospital, where Jatt had been taken for a medical examination.

The NIA said the attack was carried out by the two accused, along with others, on orders from their Pakistan-based LeT Commanders.

Jatt was killed in an encounter in Budgam district with the security forces later in 2018.

The NIA said the attached immovable properties of Wani and Khan, both identified as overground workers of LeT, include various plots of land. The residential house of Shafi was also attached.

The two accused were arrested from their Pulwama homes on February 8, 2018 and were found to have weapons, the NIA said.

The NIA said the attachment was meant to go full throttle against terrorist organisations and operatives operating in Kashmir.
