New Delhi, May 31 (IBNS) The Art of Living, an organisation led by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar, whose mega cultural festival on the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi in March, drew a lot of criticism from environmentalists, has been asked to pay the entire fine of nearly Rs 5 crore by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), according to media reports on Tuesday.

The three-day event in March was attended by by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several dignitaries and leaders from the world.

Art of Living was allowed to hold the festival on condition that they will pay the fine after the programmes is over.

The organisation had paid Rs 25 lakh immediately before the event in March.

The NGT had said the remaining amount was to be paid in three weeks when AOL said it needed four weeks to pay the Rs 5 crore fine.

Terming their foundation as a charitable institution, the members said that the money should be used to build a bio diversity park.

AOL asked that the 4.75 crores that they owed be treated as a bank guarantee and used to build the biodiversity park.

NGT, which has questioned the bona fides of AOL, refused to accept the bank guarantee and asked the organisation to deposit the penalty by 7pm on Tuesday, according to media reports.

NGT said that AOL has entered into multiple litigation to avoid paying the fine, media reported.
