New Delhi, Jun 2 (UNI) A French national was detained on Sunday by the Delhi airport authorities for illegally keeping an Iridium-make satellite phone, sources said.

The satellite phones are banned in India.

The sources said the incident took place at around 0306 hrs during pre-embarkation security check (PESC) at the security hold area of the airport when a CISF jawan on duty detected an Iridium-make phone from the hand baggage of the passenger.

The passenger was identified as Pierre Laurent Bouilhol, a French National, bound for Leh by GoAir flight No G8-215.

As the passenger was carrying the banned phone, he was offloaded and handed over to Delhi Police for further legal action in the matter.
