Guwahati, Oct 14 (IBNS) : Security forces have apprehended a hardcore militant of NDFB(S) from Assam's Kokrajhar district on Tuesday evening, officials said on Wednesday.

Based on specific intelligence, the Army and the Assam Police launched a swift and skillfully planned operation in the BTAD district and apprehended a hardcore National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) militant.

The nabbed militant was identified as Joytun Narzary alias Jaila and recovered a 7.62mm Pistol with some ammunition in possession from him.

“The terrorist trained for subversive activities under Batha (top leader of NDFB(S)) alongwith 180 other cadres, near the Arunachal border. He was involved in December 23, 2014 Adivasi carnage, in which scores of people had lost their lives and in many subversive activities like extortion. He was hiding in West Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat and Bangalore for the last nine months, to escape the law,” BTAD IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said.
