New Delhi, Mar 9 (IBNS) : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday briefed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday's Lucknow encounter and said the nation is proud of the slain militant Saifullah's father, who refused to take the body of his son.

"I feel it necessary to mention here that Saifullah's father, Sartaj Mohammad  has refused to take his body. He said if his son does not belong to the country, he does not belong to the family either.  The entire country is proud of Saifullah's father," Singh said.

"By disowning his son, a terror suspect,  Sartaj Mohammed, has made an important statement," he said.

"I urge the House to sympathise with the family," he said.

The Home Minister informed the House that personnel of Anti Terrorist Squad had surrounded the house in which Saifullah was holed up.

"Saifullah did not surrender despite being persuaded by the security officials and fired on the Anti Terrorist Squad personnel."

"After 12 hours the team entered and shot him dead," Singh said.

Saifullah, 22, was killed in the encounter after he refused to surrender.

An ISIS flag and a train timetable, besides a huge cache of arms and ammunition were discovered near his body.

Aaccording to the Uttar Pradesh police, Saifullah was involved in a bombing this week on a train in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh in which nine people were injured.

Saifullah's father refused to accept his body on Wednesday at their home in Kanpur and denounced him as a traitor..
