Nasim Zaidi takes over as new CEC
New Delhi, Apr 19 (IBNS): Nasim Zaidi has assumed charge as 20th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) succeeding H.S. Bramha here on Sunday.
Brahma laid off his office on Saturday after completing his tenure.
Prior to this, Zaidi has served as Election Commissioner since August 7, 2012. Before joining the Election Commission, he had served the nation as a long time civil servant of the Indian Administration Service (1976- Batch).
Speaking to media persons after taking over charge, Zaidi said that ECI will formulate a strategic plan for 10-15 years based on principles of independence, transparency, professionalism, inclusiveness and measurable outputs.
"The plan will be based on all round institutional strengthening, voter education and an efficient election operation," he said.
Zaidi further stated that he would like ECI to be more vibrant, transparent and accountable organisation, which is open to receiving new ideas and best practices.
