Narendra Modi's youngest minister Smriti Irani takes charge of Women and Child Development Ministry

New Delhi, June 3 (IBNS): Thre youngest in PM Narendra Modi's Cabinet-Smriti Irani-on Monday took charge as the Women and Child Development Minister. 

Smriti scripted a massive victory in Amethi seat in the Lok Sabha polls.

Her victory assumes significance as she beat Congress president Rahul Gandhi from a seat which was considered a Congress stronghold till May 23 when the Lok Sabha polls result was announced.

She was defeated by Rahul from the same seat in 2014.

Rahul was a three-time MP from the seat.

However, this time, Smriti Irani defeated him by over 55,000 votes.

After taking charge as the Minister, Smriti tweeted: " Grateful to PM @narendramodi ji for reposing his faith and giving me an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of children & foster Women-led Development. We will continue to fulfil our commitment towards empowering women and creating a better tomorrow for our children."
