New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, who is currently on a tour to the neighbouring nation, will jointly inaugurate three bilateral projects via video link on Saturday.

Hasina started her India trip on Oct 3.

The two leaders are expected to meet today.

Both countries are keen to publicly play down the issue of the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, though officials from both sides privately acknowledged the matter is expected to figure when Hasina holds talks with Modi on Saturday, reported Hindustan Times.

Hasina has said her government is satisfied with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) move implemented by the Indian government in Assam this year.

The Bangladesh PM said she was satisfied with the Indian counterpart’s assurance on the sidelines of the recently concluded UN General Assembly that Bangladesh should not be worried over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) being implemented in Assam.

Asked by The Indian Express whether she was satisfied with Modi’s assurance in New York, she said, “Oboshoyi (Of course).”

Responding to questions on the NRC at a reception hosted by Bangladesh envoy Syed Muazzem Ali, Hasina was quoted as saying by the newspaper: “I don’t see any problem. I had a talk with Prime Minister Modi. Everything is OK.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina participated as Chief Guest at the India Economic Summit organized by the World Economic Forum on Oct 3-4.

India and NRC:

The final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which constitute status of every individual in a family in Assam was published online last month.

According to the NRC authority, all persons who have applied for inclusion their names in NRC up to Aug 31, 2015 and have valid ARN number can check their final status online.

A total of 3,30,27,661 persons had applied for inclusion their names in the NRC.

Out of the total applicants 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in final NRC. 19,06,657 persons were left out from the list.

On Aug 31 last, the NRC authority had published the final list of NRC, in which more than 19 lakh people were excluded.
