Nagaland government to distribute relief package to 30,000 daily wage labourers

Kohima/IBNS: By aiming to help the needy people during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Nagaland government has directed the Chairman of all 12 District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to provide relief pack of essential commodities to the daily wage labourers who are facing hardships during the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to the state Home department and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, a total of 30,000 beneficiaries are to be distributed the relief package, such as rice and other essential commodities.

Principal Secretary to the state government R Ramakrishnan through an official communication directed all DDMAs to take urgent steps for preparation of relief packages and get them delivered to daily wage earners in distress at the earliest.

Earlier, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the state government will continue its assistance activities by distributing food rations to the needy people of the state.

On the other hand, the relief distribution for daily wage earners/labourers and needy families under Kohima district began on Monday at Khouchiezie Kohima Local ground with Kohima DC & DDMA Chairman, Gregory Thejawelie NCS launching the relief distribution for the district, where around fifty beneficiaries received the relief items for the day.

The Dry Ration Relief Package has been issued to mitigate the economic problem/hardship faced by daily wage earners, labourers and needy families in the entire State by the State Government of Nagaland.

In Kohima district, a total number of 7,000 beneficiaries from among the daily wage earners, labourers will be assisted with the relief package. Under administrative subdivision/circle, Chiephobozou has been allotted 700 beneficiaries, Tseminyu – 700, Jakhama – 300, Sechu Zubza – 300, Botsa – 300, Kezocha – 200 and Tsogin – 200 and the remaining 4300 beneficiaries will be from the Kohima Municipal Area and Kohima Sadar. ADC Kohima, Bhavani Sri flagged off the relief distribution for the subdivisions under the district.

The Dry Ration Relief Package contains twelve food items as per the following scale laid down by the State Government: Rice - 10 Kgs, lentils - 01 Kg, kholar/ naga dal - 01 Kg, M.oil - half lt. bottle, sugar - 01 - Kg, salt - 01 Kg, tea - 200 gms, bath soap - 2 pcs, washing soap - 2 pcs, masala packet - 01 pack of 100 gms, onion and garlic - 01 Kg and chilli powder - 100 gms.

A team of officials from district administration including the staffs, DDMA, F&CS, Police, NYK and volunteers from various organizations have been engaged in the relief distribution.
