N Biren Singh wins floor test in Manipur Assembly

Imphal, Mar 20 (IBNS) : Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Monday won the crucial floor test in the state Assembly.

According to reports, Singh's  BJP Government got the support of 33 MLAs as against 27 obtained by the Congress in the 60-member Assembly.

Governor Najma Heptullah had invited the BJP, which won 21 seats, ten short of an absolute majority,  to form the Government following a fractured mandate in the elections conducted in early March.

The floor test is to be followed by, a confidence motion in the Assembly.

The BJP garnered the support of four each MLAs of NPP and NPF, one MLA of LJP and one each lawmaker of Congress and Trinamool Congress, who joined the saffron party.

Singh, a former national level football player, took oath as the CM of Manipur on March 16 along with eight other ministers.
