Muzaffarpur shelter rape: SC issues notice to Centre, bans media from publishing images of victims

New Delhi, Aug 2 (IBNS): Taking suo moto cognizance of the mass sexual exploitation of minor girls at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur, the Supreme Court on  Thursday issued a notice to the Bihar government and the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry, media reports said.

The top court t also directed them not to publish any images or videos of the victims, even in a blurred or morphed form while barring the media from conducting any interviews with the minor victims.

According to reports, altogether minor girls, who were lodged in the shelter home, run by an NGO, were subjected to rape. The incidents came to the fore following a report submitted to the state government by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Till now, the police have arrested eleven people, including the prime accused, Brajesh Thakur, in connection with the case.

Faced with a pouncing opposition, the Bihar Government has handed over the investigation to the CBI.
