Mumbai's Covid cases jump 21 pc after 7 months as revelers leave home in holiday season

Mumbai/IBNS: Mumbai recorded 922 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hour a 21 percent jump from yesterday when the metropolis logged 757 cases.

Two related deaths were also reported today.

It was on June 4 last that Mumbai had reported 973 cases in a day.

The Covid-19 cases have been steadily rising following the emergence of Omicron strain of coronavirus in South Africa and Botswana and later other parts of the world.

Mubai's active caseload now stands at 4,295 cases and the positivity rate has jumped to 2.64 percent.

Both the Central and state governments have sounded an alert, warning people to practice Covid-appropriate behaviour and avoid unnecessary travel and public gatherings. Several curbs have been imposed to stop the spread of coronavirus.

However, hundreds of people were seen on Juhu beach on Christmas without wearing masks and flouting Covid-19 norms.

Mumbai was one of the worst-hit cities by Covid and there has been a steady increase in cases in the recent times.
