Mumbai: ASI succumbs to COVID-19

Aurangabad/Mumbai, May 13 (UNI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector(ASI), attached with the Sewree Police Station, succumbed to the COVID-19 in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Including the ASI's death, Maharashtra Police has so far lost eight personnel to the pandemic while other 700 have contracted the contagion.

Being worst-hit from the crisis, Mumbai has witnessed five sleuths laying down their lives while combating the novel Coronavirus whereas Pune, Solapur and Nashik reported one death each.

Barring the ASI, the four deceased Mumbai cops were aged above 50 hence it was later mandated that the quinquagenarian personnel will not be deployed in the containment zones.

Also, the government had announced Rs 50 lakh compensation for the personnel who die due to COVID-19 on duty.
