Badaun, Nov 23 (IBNS): A stampede broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district on Saturday, during the blanket distribution ceremony as part of Samajwadi Party supremo Mualayam Singh Yadav's birthday, resulting in the killing of one woman.
On the occasion of Yadav's 75th birthday, SP MP Dharmendra Yadav was distributing the blankets in Badaun when a stampede broke out.

The incident brought in lot of criticisms for the SP supremo who already earned flak for the grandeur with which his birthday was celebrated.

A mega two-day birthday bash was organised for Yadav in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh which began on Friday.

The bash began at Friday midnight with the cutting of an enormous 75-feet, 500-kg cake in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur.

There were fireworks and cultural programme - the performers included popular sufi singer Hans Raj Hans.

Earlier on Friday, Yadav rode an imported Victorian-style 'buggy' (horse-driven carriage) and around 40 ministers gathered for his bash.

Thousands of supporters accompanied the 'buggy' carrying Mulayam, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and minister Azam Khan, as it proceeded towards the Jauhar University where the SP chief celebrated his birthday.

Some schools were shut for two days and students made to line the streets to welcome the SP chief as he rode past them in an imported vintage buggy.

On Saturday, state had lined up a series of programmes for SP supremo, including the distribution of 400 cycles to impoverished youths and scholarships for students.
