New Delhi, May 31 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president and Gandhinagar MP, Amit Shah, is assuming the post of Home Ministry as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's list of cabinet members came out on Friday.

Former Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has become the Defence Minister.

Former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has got the Finance Ministry.

Former foreign secretary S Jaishankar is the new External Affairs Minister.

In a grand ceremony that witnessed presence of nearly 8000 invitees from India and abroad, Narendra Modi took oath as the 16th Prime Minister of India for the second term along with 57 other ministers as the second Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government began its journey on Thursday.

With Amit Shah, architect of Modi's election victory, joining the ministry  speculations are rife on who would succeed him as the next party chief.
