Modi meets Canada's Governor General

Ottawa, Apr 15 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached Canada on Wednesday, met country's Governor General David Johnston here.

Speaking on the meeting, MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted: "First call PM @narendramodi calls on Canada's Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in Ottawa."

He also attended a ceremonial reception with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

"PM @narendramodi and @pmharper at the ceremonial reception," PMO India tweeted.

Welcoming Modi to Canada, Harper had earlier tweeted: "On behalf of all Canadians, I’d like to officially welcome PM of India, @NarendraModi to Canada."

Modi responded to his tweet and replied him back: "Thank you @pmharper. I look forward to meeting you soon."

In the first standalone bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Canada in 42 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Ottawa on Wednesday morning.

The purpose of the visit is reportedly to focus on cooperation in energy, including civil nuclear.

Modi's visit will also attempt in attracting trade and technology for India's development.

He flew to Canada after wrapping up his two-day Germany visit where he attempted to to attract investments for 'Make-in-India' programme.
