Modi government appoints four new Governors

New Delhi, Aug 26 (IBNS): The Narendra Modi government on Tuesday announced four new governors for the state of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

While Kalyan Singh has been appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan, former Gujarat Assembly Speaker Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will take on the charge of Karnataka.

The state of Maharashtra will be headed by former central minister Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao.

Meanwhile, noted writer and former president of BJP Mahila Morcha Mridula Sinha was anointed as the Governor of Goa.

This comes after the new BJP led government changed governors of several states appointed by the previous UPA regime.

The post of Karnataka and Rajasthan's Governor remained vacant after former Law Minister H R Bhardwaj and Margaret Alva had completed their five year tenure recently.

On the other hand, Maharashtra Governor's post fell vacant when Governor K Sankaranarayanan resigned in protest on Monday after he was transferred to Mizoram.

"Vinod Kumar Duggal, Governor of Manipur, will continue to hold the additional charge of the Governor of Mizoram, until regular arrangement for the office of the Governor of Mizoram is made," a press communique by the President's Secretariat informed.

Similarly, Goa Governor's post fell vacant when former SPG chief B V Wanchoo put in his papers last month.

On Tuesday, Sheila Dikshit resigned as the Governor of Kerala.

Earlier Kamla Beniwal was shifted from Mizoram as governor. Beniwal was before that the governor of Gujarat when she was on a confrontational path with then chief minister Narendra Modi.
