Modi Attends Mulaym-Lalu social ceremony

Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, Feb 21 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the pre wedding 'Tilak' ceremony of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's grandnephew and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad's daughter in an uncommon rendezvous that brought together some of the top political leaders of India.

Mulayam Singh's grandnephew and Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Yadav will soon tie knots with Lalu Prasad's youngest daughter Raj Lakshmi in what could cement the relation between the two most powerful political families of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Reports said a  staggering 1,00,000 people, including relatives, village folks, politicians and journalists, among others, were invited to attend the ceremony.

Modi, supposedly the main political foe of both the Yadavs, reached the venue at 10.45 AM along with Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik. He  was received by Lalu Prasad and Mulayam.

Both Lalu and Mulayam, who have been in the front of the political forces opposing Moldi and his party , the Bharatiya Janata Party, in national politics, shook hands with the PM and posed for photographs with him along with members of their families.

Modi was seated between Lalu and Mulayam while photographs were taken.

He showered flower petals on the bridegroom in a traditional ritual for blessing the couple.

Later Tej Pratap told reporters that  there was no politics involved in the Prime Minister's visit. "There is no politics in his visit. He was invited. We are grateful to him for visiting us and give his blessings. The opposition to him is issue based and not the personal," he said.

Modi left the venue after spending 45 minutes at the ceremony.
