Rajesh Yadav was shot dead outside Allahabad University's Tara Chand Hostel late on Monday, the media quoted the police as saying.

On Tuesday, a mob went on rampage and vandalised properties, media reported. The mob torched two buses and allegedly damaged a nursing home.

According to NDTV, the mob even attacked journalists.

The BSP leader was accompanied by his friend Dr Mukul Singh who later said to the police that some people attacked the BSP leader and opened fire at him at around 2.30am.
