MK Stalin feels 'honoured' after becoming DMK President
Chennai, Aug 28 (IBNS): MK Stalin on Tuesday said he felt 'honoured' after being named as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president.
He tweeted: " I feel honoured and grateful to have been elected as the President of the DMK party.I pledge to protect, cherish and advance the four founding principles of our party: Self Respect, Social Justice, Rationalism and Secularism. "
Stalin (65), the son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Muthuvel Karunanidhi, succeeded his father.
The DMK president's post had fallen vacant after party patriarch Karunanidhi's demise on Aug 7, 2018.
Stalin became the working president of the party in 2017.
Following Karunanidhi's death, a succession war within the party took place with Alagiri, the other son of the late DMK president, claiming several party loyalists are with him.
Alagiri was expelled from the DMK in 2014 for "anti-party activities".
