M.J. Akbar visits Tajikistan

New Delhi, May 7 (IBNS): M.J. Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs visited Tajikistan on May 1-5 May, 2018 to participate in the High-Level International Conference on Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism hosted by Tajikistan in cooperation with the UN, OSCE and EU.

In his speech, he thanked the Tajik Government for preventing radicalized elements from spreading into the Central Asian region and beyond by their historic struggle during the Tajik civil war.
During his stay in Tajikistan Akbar called on Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern.

Separately, he met with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan SirodjiddinAslov, Defence Minister of Tajikistan Col. Gen. SheraliMirzo and Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Col. Gen. AbdurahimKohorov and discussed issues of bilateral and regional interest.

In all meetings both sides expressed resolve to enhance defence and security cooperation, mutual trade and investment and regional connectivity. Akbar also met representatives of Indian community in the evening of May 4.

On the sidelines of the Conference Akbar separately metAbdulazizKamilov, Foreign Minister of Republic of Uzbekistan, ErlanAbdyldaev, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyz Republic, Peter Szijjarto, Foreign and Trade Minister of Hungary, VepaHajiev, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkmenistan and Vladimir Voronkov, Under Secretary General of UN Counter-Terrorism Office and discussed issues of respective bilateral and regional concerns.
