Missing fishing boat located, Coast Guard launches extensive search
A massive search and rescue operation was launched by the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (NE) on receiving report of eight fishing boats missing in the Bay of Bengal from the Dept of Fisheries. Coast Guard ship patrolling in the area was directed to search for the missing boats.
Another ship has been tasked by Coast Guard to augment the search.
"One Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft of Coast Guard has also been launched from Kolkata to search for the missing boats. Out of eight fishing boats, four have returned safely, one boat FB Tara Maa Regn No IND-WB-CLEE614 which was stranded due to engine failure was located by CGS Raziya Sultan," read a government statement.
The boat along with all the 10 crew onboard was provided with necessary assistance and is being towed towards Sagar Island.
"However, search of the remaining boats is continuing. The rough sea conditions due to prevailing depression along West Bengal coast are making the search and rescue operations extremely difficult. Director General Coast Guard Rajendra Singh, PTM, TM, who is on official visit to Haldia and Kolkata is personally monitoring the search and rescue operation being conducted from the Coast Guard Operation Centre at Kolkata," it said.
