A 14-year-old girl shot herself with an illicit firearm and committed suicide in the Tilhar area of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said that Vinati Bharati, a student of class 10, shot her on Tuesday night in Khiriya Udiat village.

"The mother of the deceased revealed that when she rushed to the spot, Vinati was already dead," he said.

He said that a suicide note was recovered from the spot.

"The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and the matter is being investigated by the police," he said.
