Medical board to be set up to probe athlete's suicide in SAI hostel

New Delhi/Thiruvanthapuram, May 9 (IBNS) The Union Sports Ministry has ordered setting up of a medical board to probe the suicide attempt by four teenage athletes at aSports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala.

The hostel has been temporarily closed and all residents have been sent back home for a week.


On Thursday, four girl athletes, all residents at the sports hostel in Alappuzha, had attempted suicide by eating a poisonous fruit. One of the girls has died, and three are  in hospital.
 
 They had made a suicide pact alleging harassment by seniors at the hostel.The allegation has been denied by the seniors.

The hostel housed 67 young athletes - 27 girls and 40 boys - who have now been sent home.
