Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was the first foreign leader to wish Indian PM Narendra Modi after his Bharatiya Janata Party scripted the third straight victory in the Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday.

Jugnauth posted on X: "Congratulations Prime Minister Modi Ji @narendramodi on your laudable victory for a historic third term. Under your helm, the largest democracy will continue to achieve remarkable progress. Long live the Mauritius-India special relationship. "

Modi was quick in responding and said: " Thank you Prime Minister @KumarJugnauth ji for your heartfelt message. Mauritius plays a crucial role at the intersection of our Neighbourhood First policy, Vision SAGAR and our commitment for the Global South. I look forward to working together to further deepen our special partnership."

Bhutan PM  Tshering Tobgay said he is looking forward to work with Modi to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

"Congratulations to my friend PM @narendramodi ji and NDA for the historic 3rd consecutive win in the world’s biggest elections. As he continues to lead Bharat to great heights, I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen the relations between our 2 countries," he posted on X.

In his reply, Modi said: " Thank you my friend Prime Minister @tsheringtobgay for your warm wishes. Bharat-Bhutan relations will continue to grow strength to strength."

G20 region leader and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni greeted her Indian counterpart and said: " Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us, for the well-being of our Nations and our peoples."

Narendra Modi is likely take oath as Prime Minister for the record third straight term on Saturday (June 8, 2024), a rare event in the Indian political scenario, media reports said.

Only former Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru had previously won three terms.

Nehru was India's first Prime Minister since the country achieved its freedom from British rule in 1947.

Meanwhile, Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi on Wednesday, a day after his BJP-led NDA won the Indian general polls for the third straight term since coming to power in 2014, to tender his resignation.

The President asked Modi to continue in his post till he takes oath as the PM for another term.

Modi won the Lok Sabha polls from temple city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, a politically crucial state where the saffron brigade suffered a setback at the hand of INDIA alliance.

Modi defeated his opponent Ajay Rai of the Congress by less than 1.5 lakh votes.

This is the third time he won the Varanasi seat since making his debut as MP in 2014.
