Massive fire breaks out at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, firefighting operations currently underway

Kolkata, Oct 3 (IBNS): A major fire broke out at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in central Kolkata's College Street area on Wednesday morning, triggering panic among the patients and their family members, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen inside a pharmacy counter located in the ground floor of the state-run hospital's MCH building's medicine block at around 8 am.

As many as 10 fire tenders, local police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel rushed to the scene and firefighting operation is currently underway there.

More than 250 patients, who were undergoing treatment in other floors of MCH building, have been safely evacuated by their family members, hospital staffers and DMG personnel, according to reports.

A local police official said that no casualty has been reported so fire in the incident.
